2012 IT Trends
According to David Cappuccio, managing Vice President and Chief of Research for Infrastructure at Gartner, there are 10 trends to be aware of as we enter 2012. Among these trends are virtualization, social networks and cloud computing. As virtualization continues to evolve, companies need to incorporate this concept into their business strategy and recognize the overall impact of IT. Furthermore, notable benefits of cloud computing, such as built-in elasticity and scalability prove to have positive implications for all businesses no matter the size.
Another big trend for 2012 is social networks. The presence of social networking is growing and those companies who ignore its impact are likely to be left behind. These networks allow for individuals, groups and communities to come together and share experiences along with an organization's products and services. Social networking will continue to have an impact on businesses as technology has enabled it to develop and grow rapidly. Proving Securities Worth in a Big Company
Although security is not the top spend for companies as budgets get more concise, those who focus on security need to reassure their organization that spending on security measures is necessary. 9 Secrets of Getting Stuff Done in a Big Company by Mary Brandel explores strategies professionals can use to align their security goals with those of the company. First, one must present significant evidence showing that there will be a greater return on investment on security measures by providing tangible figures. The second secret is to show the link to the business strategy. More individuals are likely to back up your plan if they see a clear link to the strategic goals of the company.
Another critical step is to express your ideas so management can visually understand your point of view as opposed to just hearing it. Some strategies include display visuals, storytelling and setting up "hacking challenges" to show leadership how easy security measures can be broken. Many of the ideas included within this article are very applicable to other departments who are seeking to show value in additional expenses. Visit this site to find out more.

Awards & Honors
The Select Group Named Among TBJ's Fast 50
The Triangle Business Journal's Fast 50 is determined yearly by revenue growth over the previous three years. This year's winners were based off revenue and profitability from 2008-2010. The event honoring the winners was held Tuesday evening at the Sheraton Imperial in Durham where TSG landed 25th on the list of the 50 fastest-growing private companies in the Triangle. This will mark the 4th time in the past 5 years that TSG has won the TBJ Fast 50. When asked about how TSG plans to maintain the growth, CEO Sheldon Wolitski stated, "Our strategy is to continually target large markets across the country where we have an existing customer base." He also added, "Our focus is to continue making an impact in our current market while translating this success to other markets we serve."

Laughter in the Office
For thirty years, Johnson had arrived at work at 9A.M. on the dot. He had never missed a day and was never late. Consequently, when on one particular day 9 A.M. passed without Johnson's arrival, it caused a sensation. All work ceased, and the boss himself, looking at his watch and muttering, came out into the corridor. Finally, precisely at ten, Johnson showed up, clothes dusty and torn, his face scratched and bruised, his glasses bent. He limped painfully to the time clock, punched in, and said, aware that all eyes were upon him, "I tripped and rolled down two flights of stairs in the subway. Nearly killed myself." And the boss said, "And to roll down two flights of stairs took you a whole hour?"
